Please feel free to call Meggett Town Hall at 843.889.3622 with any questions.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation is currently replacing the bridge along SC-165 over Meggett Creek in Charleston County.  This bridge is rated as being structurally deficient and therefore qualifies for Federal Bridge Replacement funding.  Notable construction activities are expected to begin August 26, 2019.  Pending any delays due to weather conditions, fabricator delays, etc., the bridge should be reopened to traffic by approximately November 29, 2019.
 
            In order to minimize the construction duration, project costs, and impacts to property owners and the environment, the road will be closed during construction.  Traffic will be detoured to S-10-390 (Toogoodoo Road), S-10-1159 (Wilson Road), S-10-128 (Ethel Post Office Road), and back to SC 165.  The net additional detour length will be approximately 1.89 miles for through traffic.  A site map of the detour is available here. 
 
            The SCDOT District Six Office has notified locally affected businesses and schools via letter advising them of this construction.

The damage has made it impossible to post the monthly meeting updates/other messages for the time being. Town Leadership is actively pursuing arrangements to restore the sign to working order. All updates and meeting times will continue to be posted here on the Town website in the interim. Questions and concerns can be directed to Town Hall at (843) 889-3622.]]><![CDATA[Dominion Energy Tree Trimming]]>Wed, 22 May 2019 14:52:15 GMThttps://www.townofmeggettsc.org/news--updates/dominion-energy-tree-trimmingAs part of its five-year cycle to maintain public safety and electric system reliability, Dominion Energy South Carolina will begin pruning trees throughout parts of lower Charleston County in the coming weeks.
The project - which will extend across approximately 90 miles of overhead distribution lines to include sections of Adams Run, Hollywood, and Meggett - is set to begin in early June and will take approximately 5 months to complete. Property owners will be notified by mail or email approximately two weeks prior to the start of trimming in their area.
 
Overgrown vegetation and tree limbs are the number one cause of power outages, and trimming on a routine cycle can protect the long-term health of the tree. Lowcountry Leadership Charter School opened in August of 2013 and is a K – 12 Grade school.  Their student and staff population represent Colleton County, Charleston County, Dorchester County, and Berkeley County.

]]><![CDATA[Early & Absentee Voting- Chas. County]]>Mon, 22 Oct 2018 14:33:16 GMThttps://www.townofmeggettsc.org/news--updates/early-absentee-voting-chas-countyWorking on Election Day, Nov. 6? Worried you won't have time to vote? You can go ahead and vote in next month's midterm election if you can carve out the time to get to the Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration office in North Charleston.
From now until 5 p.m. on Mon. Nov. 5 (the day before the election), you can head to the election office at 4367 Headquarters Road in North Charleston, fill out an application, and vote early.

Though the procedure is billed as "in-person absentee" voting, it covers pretty much anyone who can't make it to the polls for any one of 16 official reasons, including work, disability, age, or a vacation conflict.

Starting on Mon. Oct. 22, Charleston County residents will also be able to vote early at Seacoast Church branches in West Ashley (2049 Savannah Highway) and Mt. Pleasant (750 Long Point Road) from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To do this, you must be registered to vote. You can do that in person at the office or online if you have a valid S.C. driver's license through Oct. 17. You must also bring a valid photo ID in the form of a S.C. driver's license, a federal military ID, a voter registration card with photo, a DMV ID card, or a U.S. Passport.

You can also download and print your absentee voting application, fill it out, mail it to the county elections office, and wait for your absentee ballot in the mail. You can check your voter registration status, and study up on your sample ballot on the S.C. Election Commission website.

Voters will cast ballots for governor, Congress, state, and local offices on Election Day. ​
