Tri-County Emergency Management Conference Call Updates
1-30-2026 (3PM) Conference Call (click to read update)
  • National Weather Service Statewide Statement: This is potentially the largest snow event since 2014.  Charleston County will have a varying amount of accumulation depending on your location.  Charleston proper 3-6" accumulation, likely less in the more southern parts of the county.
  • Impacts
    • Interstate/Primary Roads and major Bridges - SCDOT and Charleston County have already begun to pretreat the roads.
    • Winds Saturday night is a concern, possibly resulting in power outages and downed trees.
    • Cold Arctic Temperatures into early next week!
    • Icy Roadways - stay off the roads if possible.
  • Charleston County will move to OPCON 2 on Saturday with a partial opening of their Emergency Operations Center.
  • SCDOT's top priority will be the interstate, then major highways.  Our local rural SCDOT and County roads are not a priority at this time.  The County has asked Towns to report all secondary road issues during the 3pm call tomorrow.

  • Snow will continue to fall through the night into early Sunday morning.  
  • Sunday and Monday will be generally sunny melting snow and ice, but the temperatures will continue to drop below freezing each night creating slick roads both on Monday and Tuesday mornings.  
  • There is still a concern of strong wind gusts through this evening, with expected gusts up to 30 mph in our area.  The wind may create a blowing or drifty snow, limiting visibly.  
  • Charleston County Warming Centers are open, click here to learn more.
  • SCDOT has 10 plows in Charleston, motor graders are ready to roll out, and bridges and major interstates were pre-treated.  
  • SCDOT and Charleston County representatives are asking everyone to stay off the road if possible.  
  • Call 911 in the event of an emergency.
  • Airport Update: all flights canceled by airlines.  
2-01-2026 (9AM) CONFERENCE CALL (click here to read update)
  • Predicted snow totals were well under forecasted totals, this is great news!
  • Roads are icy in areas.  If you must travel, please use caution when traveling.  
  • Any bridges that were closed, have been re-opened.
  • Once the temperatures rise above freezing, likely around noon today, melting of snow and ice is expected.  Depending on the amount of evaporation, plan for untreated roads to refreeze after sunset.  
  • Monday morning - roads in our area will likely have patches of black ice.  It is recommended to wait until after sunrise to travel.  No concerns for Tuesday morning currently.  
  • Extreme cold temperatures are still a concern for both low temps and wind chill.  
  • As a reminder, call 911 in the event of an emergency.  
  • Any roadway issues or isolated issues, please report those to [email protected].
  • County agency opperations & open times: decisions will be made around 3pm today.  Check Charlestoncounty.org for more information.  
Generator Safety Reminder
If you lose power and you run a generator be sure to shut your main breaker off, that way you're not feeding power back down the line.
