Be sure to bring your own shovel to fill the bags with sand.  Additional bags are scheduled to be delivered Tuesday, August 6th weather permitting.

8/5/2024 @ 10:30AM Tri-County 
National Weather Service - Charleston, SC Update

• Hurricane Debby made landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida this morning 
• Debby has slowed and is expected to move N NE into GA today and tonight
• Due to the slowed track of Debby, forecasting is more challenging for our area.
• As of today, the expected 10-20" total rainfall has begun, with up to 30" in isolated areas.
• Storm Surge is expected to be 2-3' inundation
• Recent trends are showing the storm will stay over the warm waters of the Atlantic - if this happens, there is an increased possibility of strong tropical storm force winds in addition to the soaking/flooding rains.  
  • This could mean higher winds and increased storm surge
• As of now, current Advisories, Watches, and Warnings - Tropical Storm, Flood and Storm Surge.  Tornado warnings/watches are expected later today, continued cloud cover will lessen the likelihood of tornadoes.  
• As it stands now, late Tuesday is when we can expect Tropical Storm force winds to begin.  

Charleston County EMD Update/County Updates

• CCEMD is currently at OPCON 2, planning to move to OPCON 1 @ 1PM today.
• Shelters
  • The Primary Shelter is Dunston Elementary School opening at 5PM today.
  • The Pet Friendly shelter is located at the Sheriff's Admin Facility - this is a last resort shelter, all general public should go to the primary shelter first.  
  • CARTA will begin transporting to the shelters some time after 9PM today - timing is uncertain.

STATE Conference call yesterday - Governor McMaster declared a State of Emergency.  The State EMD is expecting a catastrophic event and urges all SC residents to follow all warnings surrounding flood waters.

8/3/2024 @ 3:00PM Tri-County Conference Call​

• Flooding from rain is our biggest threat at this time.  Rain totals beginning Sunday morning through Friday are expected to range between 12-20", higher in some areas.  
• Plan for tropical force winds arriving possibly as early as Monday morning.  Click here to view map.
• The threat of tornados, strong winds, overall rain fall totals, and storm strength will depend on how long TS Debby stays over the warm waters off the SC Coast.  
• Charleston County Emergency Management is currently operating at OPCON 3.  It is expected a move to OPCON 2 will happen by early mid-week.

• Incidents are monitored by the EMD Staff and Warning Point.

OPCON 2 - Enhanced Awareness 

• A disaster or emergency is likely to affect the County.
• The County Emergency Operations Center is operating in one of the following levels of readiness: monitoring, partial activation or full activation as deemed necessary.
• Emergency operations plans are implemented.

OPCON 1 - Full Alert

• A disaster or emergency is imminent or occurring.
• The County Emergency Operations Center is fully activated.
• All County emergency support function personnel are activated or ready to deploy.

• Town Hall offices will remain open today.  Hours of operation could change later in the week.
• Sand & Bags
  • Sand & Bags are available now at Meggett Park located across the street from Meggett Town Hall.
  • Currently there are about 1600 bags and plenty of sand available.   The Town ordered more bags today with a delivery date of tomorrow, depending on weather and delivery services, they may be delayed.  
  • You will need to bring your own shovel!
